Club History

The London Brompton Club was born in the summer of 2011 after a meeting of minds of longstanding Brompton fanatics Andrew Barnett (aka The Brompton Bumble Bee), Mick Blackman (aka The Brompton Badger) & David Eales of The Ealing Bike Hub (now known as the London Bike Hub).

They realised that whilst it was great to get together with other like minded Brompton enthusiasts at the annual Brompton events, there was nothing specifically for Brompton cyclists the rest of the year.... & lo and behold: The London Brompton Club was born!

The Inaugural Ride took place on 29th July 2012 with a trip to the New Forest organised & led by Mick Blackman.

Over that summer the Facebook group started to grow in size, & on 30th September 2012 David Parkinson led the first long distance ride for the group, where 13 cyclists cycled from London to Oxford.

Inevitably group membership continued to grow: by the beginning of 2013 the group had over 300 members. The number of riders organising rides grew too, & year by year the group grew into the mammoth Brompton community that is now is (as of January 2024 the Facebook group now had over 8,200 members!).

In February 2024 the decision was made to formalise the club, & some members of the  Facebook group admin team moved forward to complete this, bringing the club under the membership scheme at Cycling UK as of 13th February 2024.
